What do you do when your furnace or heat pump stops working? You probably go online and search for a nearby heating and cooling company to fix it. But how do you know which companies have really knowledgeable technicians who are experienced? Here at Fowler and Sons, we hold a number of certifications to make you feel safer about your choice. We not only have training and experience, we also have been tested on our knowledge by industry experts. This way, you know that what you’re getting is professional, credible technicians who know exactly what they are doing in every situation. Fowler and Sons technicians are NATE certified, giving you peace of mind when you call our team.
What does NATE certified mean?
NATE is a popular certification term in the HVAC industry, but many customers don’t really know what it means. NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence. It’s the largest non-profit certification organization in the nation for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians. NATE is owned, operated, developed and supported by the entire HVAC/R industry and participation is strictly voluntary.
How do technicians get certified?
Most companies provide training for their technicians; however, NATE is an additional, voluntary step that tests applicants on their working knowledge of HVAC systems. These tests are developed by industry experts and measure real-world understanding. Areas of tested knowledge include gas furnaces, air conditioning, heat pumps, oil furnaces, air distribution, and refrigeration.
NATE certifications last for 5 years. To re-certify, it is required to either complete 60 continuing education hours or retake the test, ensuring your technician’s complete and up-to-date knowledge. It also protects you as a customer, since your technician is guaranteed to be ultimately knowledgeable of the latest HVAC equipment and processes.
Will they know how to fix it?
Of course every company claims that they are fully experienced and skilled, but how well can you trust a company without recommendations from a friend or a multitude of reviews? When a company goes the extra step to become certified in their field, it is a step of reassurance they are giving to you that they can be trusted. When you see a NATE certification, it means that that company has a fully working knowledge of HVAC equipment since they were able to pass the examination.
The NATE organization has worked hard to earn their reputation with the intention of improving the skills of technicians while ensuring reliability for consumers. NATE’s educational program is constantly being reevaluated by industry professionals to make the testing process more effective and accurate. NATE certification is entirely voluntary. Fowler and Sons believe in providing exceptional service to our customers in every way possible. Our commercial clients rely on us to be experts in our field to provide the best service for their customers in turn.
